Keep Going

My writing and publishing reference library is always growing. I have no shortage of books to read and information to gather. On top of that, I have, you know, the whole internet to help me figure things out.

Yet, even with all of that, this whole writing and publishing thing still sort of feels like a whirlwind to me. Some days I’ve got my back to the wind; I’m on top of things, and I know what to do. Other days I feel like I’m barely keeping all the stuff in my hands from being scattered into the ether.

There are days when I wonder if this is a worthwhile use of my time and days when I can’t imagine doing anything else with my time.

It’s exhilarating, exciting, and exhausting all at once.

And then there are the days where all I want to do is write. I want to post to my blog. I want to interact with people on Instagram and Twitter. I want to write stories and I want to share my stories with people who want to read them.

I have to write.

I have to share what I write.

Even if I don’t have people reading my work (yet!) I have to put stuff out there. How will anyone know if they like how I tell a story if they’ve never been able to read one of them?

This past week was a huge milestone for me. I made my novella, Always You, available for subscribers to my newsletter. I am stepping out in faith that someone will read it, like it, and come back for more of my work when I publish next year.

There is a great quote that I love from author Sam Levenson that helps me keep on keeping on with my writing, even on those days when I wonder whether I should. “Don’t watch the clock; do what it does. Keep going.”

What motivates you to keep going when things get difficult?
